Participating in the Here/Now exhibition at the Orange Regional Gallery was more than just displaying art; it was a vibrant celebration of community and creativity. From the moment I arrived, I was swept away by an atmosphere brimming with innovation. Artists and art enthusiasts gathered to appreciate unique displays and performances, creating a buzz that was simply infectious. In this post, I’ll share my exhilarating experience and delve into what made this exhibition truly magical.

The Excitement of Preparation
In the weeks leading up to the exhibition, anticipation filled the air. It felt like months waiting to hear if my artwork had been selected, when I received the confirmation my work Gerbera Daisy had been selected and I was thrilled. I had contemplated deeply on which artwork to submit, focusing on pieces that captured my artistic identity while aligning with the theme of ‘Here/Now.’ It was crucial for me to ground my art in the present while conveying the emotions tied to my journey as an artist.
Preparation sparked an exhilarating sense of creativity. I collected the artwork which was luckily I already had framed professionally in ready to hang format. Every detail mattered; for instance, I included my name tag on the back of the artwork and included the Certificate of Authenticity in case it sold.
Exhibition Opening Night: A Flurry of Emotions
The day of the exhibition arrived, filled with a whirlwind of emotions. We travelled to Orange for the Opening Night. Stepping into the gallery, I was welcomed by vibrant colours and captivating artworks. The energy was electric as artists and visitors mingled, and I felt a deep sense of belonging in this creative hub. Engaging with visitors was a highlight of the whole experience. This interaction showcased the transformative power of art, making it a true celebration of creativity.
Inspiration from Fellow Artists
The theme for the exhibition was a thoughtfully curated collection of rural artists hailing from the Central West region. This exhibition served as a vibrant platform to showcase the enormous amount of talent that is often hidden within our area, highlighting the rich artistic heritage and unique perspectives that these artists bring to the table. Each piece on display was a testament to the creativity and skill that flourishes in the rural landscape, reflecting not only the natural beauty of the surroundings but also the diverse experiences and narratives of the artists themselves.
The selection included a wide variety of mediums, ranging from traditional painting and sculpture to innovative installations and mixed media works. Each artist presented their interpretation of rural life, drawing inspiration from the breathtaking landscapes, the intricate relationships within the community, and the stories passed down through generations. The exhibition also aimed to challenge the perception that art is predominantly an urban phenomenon, revealing the depth and richness of artistic expression that exists beyond city limits.
I was truly honoured to be among these talented individuals, sharing the same space with artists whose work I deeply admire. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with fellow creatives, engage in meaningful conversations about our artistic journeys, and celebrate the collective creativity that thrives in our region. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and camaraderie, as we all recognized the significance of this moment—not just for ourselves, but for the entire Central West community. This exhibition not only showcased our work but also aimed to inspire others to appreciate and support the arts in rural areas, fostering a greater understanding of the cultural contributions that artists make to society as a whole.
The Audience Experience
Witnessing the range of reactions from visitors was a profound experience. Some were deep in thought, contemplating the meanings behind the artworks, while others animatedly discussed their favorites with friends. This spectrum of engagement reminded me why I create.
The exhibition also connected art to the broader community. Families, friends, and couples explored the space together, and I watched children’s faces lighten up at the sight of vibrant colors and playful forms. It was heartwarming to see art sparking curiosity and conversation across generations, emphasizing its universal appeal.
Takeaways and Growth
Reflecting on my time at the Here/Now exhibition, I am filled with appreciation for the connections made and lessons learned. One key takeaway is that art is a living entity that evolves through each interaction. Conversations, critiques, and collaborations have enriched my growth as an artist.
Additionally, the theme of ‘Here/Now’ urged me to focus on the present in my creative journey. Rather than fixating solely on the final product, I found value in enjoying the process. This perspective will shape my approach to future projects, reminding me to cherish every moment.
Closing Reflections: A Journey Worth Taking
My participation in the Here/Now exhibition at the Orange Regional Gallery unlocked a newfound passion for exhibiting that had been waiting to emerge. Through connection, creativity, and community, I rediscovered my identity as an artist.
